It seems to me, one of the biggest problems people have with Christians today, is that, for the longest time, we tried to keep our brokenness hidden from others, as if it didn't exist. Though we admitted we were “sinners in need of God’s grace, and forgiveness,” we pretended to be "holier than thou," which only made is seem, pompous, and "self-righteousness."

However, when we bring our brokenness into the light, not as a badge of honor, but as a confession of our sin, and then cover it with our confidence in the gospel, what we communicate, is that we recognize we too are messed up, and need Christ to heal us.
